Unmaking Myths

By KM Kramer

AI thrives on the myths we feed it:

that’s how it pretends to be human.

Christopher Columbus.  Robert E Lee.  George Washington.

Today we tear the statutes down.

Ripping shoulder pads

from the hand-me-down jacket.

Salud to red wine!  To lengthen a life well-lived.

No, that’s wrong.

1998: Autism is a rare disorder affecting 1 in 10,000 children.

2024: 1 in 36 children have autism.

Strip the myths, like husks

of the corn, to get to the kernels.

Broken glass discarded in the ocean churns for 20 years,

sometimes 200 years, until the edges soften into sea glass.

Don’t worry, I tell myself.  I still may have

the last word. The silenced often do.

KM Kramer graduated from Stanford University and Stanford Law School. An experienced First Amendment attorney and thought leader in technology law, she recently began publishing her poetry.
